Struggling is a big part of our lives, even an everyday occurrence, but what we do with our struggles is a different story all together.

Mahima, 26 and Prathna, 22, the MxP Sisters, as I would like to call them, are a powerhouse emerged from the same struggles of everyday. With just NPR 5000 from their foreknowing father, the sister’s started their journey to earn a little pocket money through their interests in fashion, jewelry and everything young girls crave and are passionate about. That was in 2014, before the girls weren’t even in their 20s!

As their father’s health deteriorated and the girls travelled with their family to India, Mahima, saw opportunities there that Nepal had yet to realize. With the flow of cash running out quickly, the sisters joined their Mega Force, and started importing products from India to sustain their family and without knowing started their Empire.
The strong linage of culture between Nepal and India, along with India being the hub of ethnic jewelry and fashion, and mixing it with Mahima’s passion and interests in their products, MP Nepal Official was born. However, with their father passing away and having three women in the house left, their mother and them, they struggled not only financially but also within their community and among their family. Discouraged, discriminated and damnable within the family, the MxP sister decided to take a stance!
Countries across the globe consider women to be second class citizens and treated as subordinates, women are socially, economically, culturally and politically dominated; from battlefields to bedrooms. Every culture in the world contains forms of violence against women that are often invisible because they are considered normal or acceptable – denying women’s equality. Traditionally, the society expects women to stay within the four walls built for them; women are discriminated from birth to funeral ceremonies. As one of the poorest countries in the world, Nepal is majorly behind due to political instability, undemocratic rule, various superstitious beliefs, and most importantly lack of quality education and awareness.
And we definitely, cannot forget the practice of “chhaupadi”, the willingness of killing the females in one’s family because of the most natural body function, without which she would not be able to give birth to your son.
“Why can’t we do things men do? We are also equally capable and we are also equally educated!”
We can definitely continue the list of shortcomings in our society against women; however, there are still men, like their father, who the sisters strongly believe started giving up once he realized their finances were running out, selling off their properties, selling off the roof over their head, to save face for his wife and his daughters.
Not being able to pay their education fee, that was when it hit home for the sisters to really push above the discrimination and the challenges they were facing within the family.
The MxP Sisters were re-born with MP Luxury Bridal, they decided to level up and go beyond their challenges. Their hard-work, their struggle, their passion came through their creative, their themes, their brand recognition and their customer service. Clients become family with Mahima and Prathna automatically or maybe because the sisters are genuine, hilarious and professional. Their level of professionalism is very difficult to find in a place like Nepal.

The MxP sisters are continuously expanding their brand and taking along, their collaborators together. Two young women, breaking all gender stereotypes in a place like Nepal with the blessing and support of one woman, their mother. MxP are women to be look out for, women who empower other women and women who have changed the game in Nepal and who will continue on changing the game. They are young women, the nation needs to learn about and the nation needs to empower and encourage.
Happy International Women’s Day to all women struggling, overcoming and empowered. Live Long and Support Each Other.
MxP have two outlets in Kupondole and follow them on Instagram!
