5 Fail And 5 Wins of the final season of Game of Thrones.

All GOT fans around the world have waited for an epic ending for the series. Patiently we made our predictions and favored our favorite characters. Now that the last season is over and done, there are a lot of hardcore fans that have been left disappointed. YouTube is filled with hate messages for creators of the show, going as far as throwing shades to the people who recommended to watch the show.

I have full respect for the people who made the show a reality, the whole GOT team has become a part of our lives, with or without watching the actual show. Granted there were a few things I liked about the seasons, there were a few things that didn’t make any sense to me, story plot wise. So here are my top 5 fail and win moments from the final season of game of thrones. And no, I’m not bothered by the coffee cup.

Spoilers ahead

Top 5 Fail moments:

5. John Snow still knows nothing:

This has become a running joke on the internet, him not knowing anything is shown clearly throughout the season. Kit Harrington, though a decent actor could not, or did not deal with the chemistry he was supposed to have with Emilia Clark.

Here a few things that I didn’t not like about John:

- constipated expression

- confused plot decisions

- no night king boss battle

- didn’t even pet ghost while leaving for kings landing

4. Jammie Lancaster ‘s confusing story arc

Have to say I had my money on Jammie. His was the most compelling story development I have seen in a show since Walter White in Breaking Bad. From the Narcissistic, incest golden boy to the selfless oath keeper, we have seen him go through so much in the show. The king slayer was who I wanted to see keep his oath, to protect the realm, by killing the mad queen Cerci. (Maggie the witch’s prophecy of death be her brothers hand?)

3. Araya’s stupid ninja training

It was a jaw dropping moment to see her give the final blow to the night king, after all that she went through with her faceless men training, where did here skills go? There was no other moment in the show that made me feel any sense of character development on her. It was almost like the writers forgot about her amazing potentials.

2. Bran the helpless

One of the dumbest character development in the entire show. With the power to see all that is happening in the realm. All he chooses to do in the show is to go back in the past to build his stupid arm chair. Damn, is it RR or D&D that made the decision to make him king at the end is beyond my understanding. Throughout the battle at Winterfell, all he does is warg into his ravens and fly around to bait the night king, what I would have wanted to see is some dragon warging or even to inform Danny about the stupid battle strategy. One word from could have potentially save the Dothrak and Unsullied army from their demise.

1. Night King's death

“The Long Night”, the biggest disappointment in the show. For years the show has been hinting on the fact that there is going to be a long battle between the living and the dead. I remember the very first episode, where the boring period piece drama suddenly got interesting with the intro of the whites beyond the wall. As an avid fan and a student of visual story telling medium, the choice to kill the night king at the middle of the season was, for me, the death of the show. The fact that all the characters in King’s Landing did not even get to feel the devastation of the white walkers brings sadness to my heart.

As of now there is a poll on the internet which has generated over one and half million votes to remake the eighth season. This is sad as there hasn’t been that many votes for ending world hunger. It comes to show that the people in charge of the show really fucked up here.

Win Moments:

5. Finally a dragon battle

Ok, Game of thrones did give us the best ever dragon battle, in tv or movies history. Some of the best moments in this season for me was the snow storm and the dragons ripping each other apart while the undead army was tearing through the living defenses. Throughout the episode I was gripping to my seat, clenching my butt hoping for the dragons to do as much damage. When the first of the dragon fire ploughed through the frontline, I literally jumped from my seat cheering for my Khalesee. Though short lived the dragon battle has set the bar for future CGI heavy movies and tv shows.

4. Epic Set, VFX, Hair makeup and costumes

I would like to give a standing ovation to the people behind the GOT (other than the writers) The costumes were detailed, the sets built for the king’s landing destruction was hyper realistic, the VFX(CGI) team did an amazing job. My favorite episode from the season has to be the bonus one (The Last Watch) here we spent 2 hours with the crew who executed the entire show and all the hurdles they had to go through because of the crazy deadlines and the vastness of the show. Regardless, they came through and I’m sure they too have a sour taste in their mouth because of the bad writing.

3. Clegane bowl

Finally, the fans got what they’ve been asking for, from the first season fans have been speculating the Clegane brothers to have a go at each other. The show has hinted the possibility of it many times, namely season 7 when John and Danny present an undead to Cercie, at the dragon pits of kings landing. The Hound had to get over his fear of fire in order to save his brother from the evil path he was on. This brought some sense of satisfaction to me and to the millions of fans of the show.

2. Sir Brian loses her virginity to knighthood

The only moment that actually brought tears to my eyes, the knighting of Lady Brian. The actors did a fabulous job creating a mood of happiness rite before the impending battle for the realm. And sir Jamie the one to knight her, a well-deserved and a present surprise. What surprised me the most is what an ass he turned out to be, and the impending doom of Jamie’s entire plot line. Again the poles, hope it works and we get an entirely new season starting off from the end of season 7.

1. Danny turning evil

The whole time, our Khaleesi, our Misa, Danny, she was the villain. We saw her become a righteous queen, breaker of chains, to the genocidal mother, after the death of her dragons. It was sad to see her go down that way, wonder what people who named their babies after her, feel now. I can see where RR Martin is trying to go with this ending, through the show could have used a few more episode to play it out better. RR himself, said a few more episodes would have justified his book, which better come out soon, to bring some closer for the mad queen’s actions.

Hope you guys like the list and do let me know how you feel, now that 10 years of our lives have been burnt (like King’s Landing) There are a few spin off series that are in the work, starting with the actual long night, where the first men fought the white walkers and actually built the wall. Then maybe the “dance of the dragon” where the black fire rebellion had some of the biggest dragons win war within the targarion family. That will be a sight to see.

Jack’s fiery rage.
