THERE IS NO SINCERER LOVE, THAN THE LOVE OF FOOD
-GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
Every year the arrival of February, brings in the anticipation for Valentine’s day. It is a day to express love and that love can be for anyone and not specially a lover. For us, the love for food surpasses the love for any other (for now at least).

Since ancient times we have always used food in some way to express love. Whether it’s sharing a meal as a family, going on a dinner date, spoiling the grand-kids with sweets, sharing recipes, bringing ice-cream to friends with broken hearts or even sneaking scraps from your plate to your pets. So grab a loved one and share a quality meal with them.
Although there are numerous restaurants in Kathmandu to choose from, One place to visit is the Old House Restaurant in Durbar Marg. A beautifully designed restaurant amidst the hustle and bustle of the city setting the perfect ambiance for either lunch or dinner. It does come with a slightly higher priced menu than most eateries in the valley, but it isn't too bad for a special occasion.
Old House is one of the few restaurants in Kathmandu that really takes special care in presenting the food. As they say, you eat with your eyes first. The staff is friendly and well versed with the menu if you require any assistance with your order. The appetizers and salads are all really good. For the mains we tried the chicken and olive dish and the spinach and ricotta tortellini. The menu is not too vast and could be slightly limiting to vegetarians, but they maintain the quality of what they serve. The lunch and dinner menus are different so don't be surprised if you don't find the burger you once ate for lunch on the dinner menu.
Where the restaurant really shines is when it comes to desserts. You will come across dessert options that you may not find in most restaurants in Kathmandu. The desserts look as good as they taste and makes for the perfect ending to a meal. The chocolate cake and molten lava cake are totally worthy of cheating on your diet. Our compliments to the chefs!
Overall, a good experience and great place to celebrate your valentine’s day with friends, family or your partner. If you don't want to splurge too much, stop by for just dessert. You will not be disappointed.
Bon Appetite!
